Join Angela in Race For Life

Ex-Corrie star hosts race for Cancer Research

Angela Griffin to host special Race for Life event at London’s O2

Cancer Research UK and Sky1 HD are joining forces to bring Race for Life, the largest women-only fundraising event in the UK, to the small screen.  A brand new Race for Life event, RACE IN THE CITY 2010, will be held on 1st May 2010 at London’s O2 Arena.  Hosted by Ex Coronation star Angela Griffin, the event and a unique show following it will be televised on Sky1 HD and Sky1 on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May 2010.

Cancer Research UK is calling on women of all ages to join Angela and take part to walk, jog or run the 5k route which features the iconic O2.  There will also be a chance for them to be part of the audience in the TV entertainment show which follows.

Angela Griffin said: “It’s an absolute honour to be a part of the life-changing, inspirational work Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life events have achieved in the last 16 years. By following real life heart-warming stories, we hope to show viewers how important this charity is and how everyone, young or old, can get involved. I’ve dusted off my running shoes and I’m raring to go - hope to see you there!”

As well as showing footage from the 5k event, RACE IN THE CITY 2010 will feature five stand alone stories of people who have been touched by cancer.  The show will celebrate their remarkable stories and those of other women who have taken part in the event and will feature great musical acts as well.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event series has gone from strength to strength, with a record 737,000 women of all ages taking part in 2009. This year the charity hopes that thousands more women will come together to help raise over £60 million to fund Cancer Research UK’s life saving work into all types of cancer. Some of the women who take part in Race for Life are cancer survivors, while others are involved to celebrate or remember the lives of family, friends or loved ones. Others are there simply to do something positive to raise money for a great cause.
