Sit back, relax and let the unique blend of funk, soul and jazz sounds of Godfathers of Groove get you in the groove. For a couple of nights the Jazz Café, the band that consists of all time great soul and funk drummer Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie, organist Reuben Wilson and guitarist Grant Green Junior will showcase their musical talents which will transport you back to the sweet soul and jazz melodies reminiscent of the 60’s New York cafes where the band perfected their distinctive sound; a sound that is characterised by its element of funk, which redefined the classic sounds of the era and thus earning them their profound title as the ‘Godfathers’ of groove.
Bernard ‘Pretty’ Purdie boasts a string of collaborations with legendary artists such as James Brown, Aretha Franklin and George Benson, King Curtis, and Miles Davis amongst other greats. Reuben Wilson’s first album ‘On Broadway’ for Blue Note Records paved way for success and acclaim. Grant Green Junior, followed the success of his father legendary jazz guitarist Grant Green inheriting exceptional guitar playing and musicality.
Support is provided by performances by the Fantastics, who bring their own take on funk, soul and jazz fusion, to celebrate their new album ‘Mighty Righteous’.
