If you’re looking for a really adventurous day out this summer, Adventure Island in Southend-on-Sea has loads of thrills in store. A landmark of the coastline for decades now, Adventure Island continues to grow, adding bigger and bigger rides. Within easy reach of London, and with nothing to pay to enter the park, Adventure Island is a perfect summer outing.
Among the vast and varied rides, Adventure Island currently boasts four roller coasters in the park: The Green Scream, The Barnstormer, The Mighty Mini Mega and Rage.
Rage is the first coaster of its kind in England. Opening in February 2007, it dominates the Southend seafront skyline, with its vivid colours and intimidating first drop.
The ride stands at about 75ft in height and features a 97 degree drop, a vertical lift hill, a vertical loop as well as a host of other elements and tight turns. Rage is certainly a ride to please the thrill seeker audience.
Aside from the rollercoasters, there’s also water rides, ghost trains, and much more: in all, there are more than 30 rides!
In addition to the rides, the theme park also has an adventure golf course, dodgems, go karts and rock climbing.
And if that isn’t enough, Adventure Island’s marine life sister park, Sealife Adventure, is a short walk along the seafront. Here you can see over 40 displays, featuring sea-life from all over the world, including sharks, lionfish, starfish and pufferfish. A stroll round the Sealife Adventure park would be a great way to calm the kids down following a day at the theme park!
During the summer months, Adventure Island opens at 11am and closes between 8pm and 10pm. Southend Victoria and Southend Central train stations are both a short walk away from Adventure Island and Sealife Adventure.
It is free to enter the park; you need to buy a wrist band, which are priced by height, to go on the rides.
