Play @ Teatro

A night of Hip Hop and R'n'B in stylish but unprententious surroundings

Friday nights is for having fun especially after a hectic working week. Play at Teatro is for those who want to start the weekend with a party and nothing less. Stylish décor greets you as you walk into the trendy looking spot on Shaftesbury Avenue’s corner.

Both ends of the room are lined up candle lit tables, comfy sofas seating deep red cushions which create an intimate and cosy atmosphere. The layout of grouped chairs signals a private and exclusive feel to the guest list only club. The Modern yet simple furnishing with the patterned decorations and warm lighting is more likely to be associated with romancing rather than dancing. A great setting for a quite date or a get together but it doesn’t seem so suitable to have so much snug furniture for a club.

Early arrivers’ may get the impression from the spacious dance floor that the club might not fill to its potential capacity. Have no fear as appearances can be deceiving. Roll on to twelve o’clock where the room starts to flow with fashionably late faces and a satisfied crowd that dances to the latest R&B and Hip hop hits.

As the pace picks up most people have abandoned their seats to hit the dance floor or head to the gathering at the crowded bar. No surprise there as drinks are on demand from the wide selection of cocktails on the drinks list. 3am marks the end of Play but the pace already slows by around two at the introduction of old school music which disperses the many party goers from the dance floor.

Teatro attracts a lively crowd of London’s under 35’s city folk. Thankfully Play was Free from young un’s and had mixture of different age groups. Ideal for a girl’s night out, group occasions or an office function, Play is a night of fun where everyone is out to have a good time. It’s not the sort of place you get the fashion conscious scrutinizing your shoes or dance moves just a friendly atmosphere to party in, express yourself and have a jolly good night out.
